Functional Medicine

how and why illness occurs

Restores Health

Functional medicine is individualized, patient-centered medicine. We start with a comprehensive history, analyzing all the stones along the path that have led you to where you are in your health journey today. Then we turn each of those stones over, looking for the triggers that have you feeling the way you are. After putting all of your unique history together, I use advanced laboratory testing to customize your plan to you.

Functional Lab Testing

Not all naturopathic doctors are trained in functional labs. Dr. Surprenant completed additional training through the Institute for Functional Medicine, becoming one of the few naturopathic doctors to earn the letters IFMCP. Learn more about this certification here.

Here are a few examples of specialty tests she might recommend:

Comprehensive stool analysis – looking at microbiome, inflammatory markers, enzymatic function, as well as testing for yeast, parasites, and pathogenic bacteria
Lactulose breath test – testing for dysbiosis, and yes, that means SIBO
Neurotransmitter testing – testing brain signaling molecules, useful on its own or in conjunction with medications
Comprehensive hormone analysis – salivary, serum, or urine hormone and hormone metabolite
Micronutrient panels – to evaluate for deficiencies to help us optimize your nutrition
Pharmacogenomics – to assess which psychiatric medications are the best match for your genetics

Dr. Surprenant uses Rupa Health to send you functional test kits right to your home.

“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform.”
